Instant Coffee is one of the fastest-growing segments in the coffee industry. Over the past 10 years there has been a resurgence in the craft coffee industry with many small batch roasters bringing their unique coffees into the instant market. This has been driven by the freeze drying instant technique which preserves flavor and aroma while giving the convenience of small single serve packets on the go. What is freeze-dried instant coffee you ask? Well, let us tell you!

There are two methods of creating instant coffee:

• Spray-Dried: This method, used by large brands like Folgers, Maxwell House or other large retail brands, sprays coffee extract into a hot stream of air, evaporating the water and leaving behind a fine coffee powder. Though convenient and easy, this process often loses part of the complexity, flavor, and aroma of the coffee.
• Freeze-Dried: The coffee is brewed into an extract, frozen, and placed in a vacuum chamber. The vacuum removes the ice crystals leaving behind coffee granules and preserving more natural oils and flavor compounds. These granules are intensely flavorful and perfect for crafting a delicious cup of coffee with hot or cold liquids. Just add 3g of instant coffee to 8 -10oz of your liquid of choice and taste the difference!
